The name of Randy DiNallo’s Classic Rock band is Heavy Peace, which is a band comprised of Mark Gagliardi, Ed Pilpel, Lou Chiapetta and Dan Pilver. Although this band only plays concerts upon request these days, they’re still going strong and rocking out whenever they do. Randy’s long history in music dates back to the early 70’s, but it goes back further if you count the time his guitar-playing grandfather gave him a guitar when he was eight years old, and guitar lessons soon followed.
“I started playing in bars when I was 14 years old,” Randy explained. “I was in a band called The Unique Epics with Mark Therrien on organ and Dave Desmond on Bass.”
That’s how he started during the seventies and his musical career became a whirlwind. His next band was Audience, which was the most popular band at Misquamicut Beach in Rhode Island. His band AXIS was one of the most popular bands in New England and frequently played at Shaboo Inn with Walter Chapman on Drums and Rick Smith, Joe Patrina and Randy on Guitar. His band Silverheels, featuring Rick Smith and Bill Bassell, opened up for the Fabulous Rhinestones at Lake Compounce
“There were many more bands,” said Randy, “but the band that stuck out for me in my musical career was The Neatles. We played the first National Beatles convention at Southern Connecticut State College in 1979, along with John Lennon’s band and the original Beatlemania band. Rick Smith led The Neatles band and we put out a record which was sought after by A&M records with Ed Pilpel and others.”
Over the years, Randy has played many jobs with Guitarist Mark Gagliardi under Bitter Harvest and came out with another record with Mark, Ed and others. “Mark
has played with Greg Allman. He’s also played with Jeff Skunk Baxter from The Doobie Brothers. We’ve jammed with the likes of Great Southern Bass player Dave Stoltz and Kal David, who is a legend from the Rhinestones and he’s played with many people such as John Mayall.”
I have collaborated with Randy DiNallo recently in recording a song to represent my paranormal Desert Son trilogy. His latest band, Heavy peace is coming out with a CD called Desert Son, which will include the rock version of Desert son along with some of the band’s original songs. Randy was eight years old when he started playing guitar, but he’s not even close to hanging it up. He’s still rocking after all these years.
